Groundwater treatment plant for the purification of PFC and BTEX

on the former site of Tempelhof Airport

Ressources: Soil, Groundwater, Air

Flow rate: 8 (m3/h)

Pollutants: BTEX, VOC, MOH, PAH, PFC

Processes: Biological treatment, Gravel filtration, Pump and Treat

In operation since: Oct 2021

KF Company: Harbauer Berlin GmbH

105855 2

The water purification system cleans the BTEX pollutants biologically with the help of a 35m3 bioreactor (suspended matter fluidized bed process). Iron and manganese are cleaned via a filtration stage (two gravel filters) and a separate manganese filter at the end of the plant.

The PFCs are removed from the groundwater via a large three-stage activated carbon filter system with a contact time of almost 6 hours.

The purified water is again infiltrated into several wells and made available for automatic backwashing.
