In the course of a plant reconstruction in 2010, the fixed-bed bioreactors were replaced by a fluidized-bed bioreactor.
By using a fluidized bed, shear forces that can attack the microorganisms are minimized and thus the formation of a stable biofilm is promoted. Turbulences also ensure that microorganisms have good access to oxygen, pollutants, and nutrients, and the formation of concentration gradients is minimized.
Before the biological stage, the water passes through a resin purifier, in which resin-like substances precipitate. Furthermore, the plant is equipped with a de-icing stage, a chemical dosing to prevent calcite precipitation, as well as water and air activated carbon stages.
Before the clean filtration, the water is disinfected by a UV system.
