Chamber filter press

Sludge with lower viscosity is produced in a multitude of processes e.g. municipal wastewater treatment, lake decontamination, various flocculation processes and industrial water treatment as well as food and beverage industry. The sludge needs to be disposed of, which necessitates sludge drainage.

One of the possible methods for this matter is to press the sludge into a chamber filter press.In this process the sludge is pressed in batches through the filter under high pressure. Dehydrated sludge sticks in between the panels in the form of a 2-3cm thick filter cake.The filtrate flows through drilled holes in the panels and is pumped back to the water treatment unit. The panels are pulled apart and the dry sludge falls into a designated container.Depending on the origin and quality of the sludge it has to be pretreated using different chemicals which support the dehydration or bond contaminants to the sludge.

The biggest advantage of chamber filter presses is that dehydration to a semi-solid state with up to 70% dry matter is possible. This allows new methods of disposal, which would not otherwise be suitable for liquid sludge. The cost of disposal decreases tremendously due to the reduced amount of waste.
